Ok, here goes. We are contemplating doing something. ANYTHING! We need to get away a bit. We don't have tons of money...however...we want to do something with ourselves, for ourselves. Any suggestions??? We need as many ideas as we can get. Have any of you gone somewhere that is fun...maybe different...remote...or splashy...or wherever!!! PLEASE...we need some ideas. We would love to add your ideas to our own and have a chance to do something new. We are definitely in a rut.
We have thought of Frankenmuth, Michigan. If you haven't ever gone...go. It is a nice weekend visit for anyone...you can make it more than that if you want to. Also, Mackinaw Island is wonderful...we haven't actually been there but have heard wonderful things about it.
Of course, Washington DC is awesome.
We went to Virginia Beach on our honeymoon in October and it was BEAUTIFUL. It was to chilly to lay on the beach but boy was the view wonderful...we went to Busch Gardens and had a great time.
We will let you know what we decide to do.
Thanks for anything.

you could come visit me, go to Brown County park (it's really pretty down here), and visit Nashville, IN. it's like 16 miles away? A fun time.
Well, of course my vote is for DC! But for you to really enjoy your mini vacation, go somewhere local. Unfortunately I am not that familiar with your area, sorry. I guess you could check out Cedar Point. I know it's in Ohio, but that could be a fun weekend trip. What is it you really want to do? Go to Chicago and go to the museums, go see Oprah! I hope you do something fun - you guys totally deserve it! Wish you were here! Love ya!
Hey Cheri,
Mackinac is less than a day's drive away and beautiful, although you probably want to wait for the weather to be a bit warmer.
There is also Marshall, Michigan, a lovely town with quaint shoppes and architecture. Marshall is very close.
Also west of here is the American Farmer's Market. I think it is near South Bend. Big old fashioned building with lots of shoppes.
A little vacation sounds great! One of our favorite places in Michigan is Charlevoix. It's up north a ways, not far from the Mackinac Bridge. When we were there 10 years ago (that's hard to believe) it had quaint little shoppes that lined one side of main street and a little park on the other. You can see Lake Michigan on one side of the drawbridge/main street and another smaller lake on the other. Lots of beautiful lakeside houses. Two public beaches- and a more secluded one not many people knew about. It was gorgeous in the summer! Cute bed and breakfasts abound as well as cabins, houses for rent.
Have you ever been to South Carolina? I love the little coastal towns there. So neat. We lived near a place called Paulley's Island- had some cute shoppes, Litchfield Beach- nice beach front housing, Georgetown-very historic olde town with seafood and cute boardwalk, Charleston is great, too. Would love to go back there. Myrtle Beach area had flea markets, museums, etc.
Another idea is Wisconsin Dells. I've never been there, but we passed it on the way to Wyoming. The meyers have vacationied there. There are neat hotels with indoor water parks and outlet mall shopping.
I've also heard that Madison Indiana is a neat place to visit. It's on the Ohio river I think. About 5 hours straight south of us. Pualani and John had a cute townhouse there. I think they still have it and might rent it out for vacationers? Think I heard that. Sounds like a REALLY neat place to visit. Quaint shoppes and cafes.
One last idea- I love Stratford, Ontario Canada. Do you guys love musicals? Shakespeare? They have an all summer long Shakespeare festival. I can't remember how many theatres there are in that town- like 7 or 8. They have all of them running during the summer. And there is more than just Shakespeare- lots of culture. I believe there are packages you can purchase. When I went, we stayed in a hostel really cheap. Lots of shoppes, cafes, culture, drama! I would love to go back. Ooh, there's also a riverwalk that is sooo relaxing and romantic. I think there are even swans. I've always thought it would make a great honeymoon spot or anniversary trip. I would love to go back!
You guys deserve a great vacation! Hope you find a place you would love. Are you thinking about doing this soon, or in the summer? Whew, I've written a book here, but this is one topic I have quite a bit of experience in.
:-) Since we've moved a time or two. Ha Ha.
Love you lots!
Sarah
